December ... 2010

FHE ... catch up

December 6th - I was scheduled to go ice skating with Rachel and her family. However, I caught some nasty something the weekend before and I was so sick I could not even talk so I had to miss that event.

December 13th - Dan's family again. I was asked to give the lesson. It was a lot of pressure but it went OK and I was impressed with how much my nephews knew about the gospel. We then played some egg cracking game and then psychiatrist.

December 20th - This night I babysat for Ann Dee and Cameron so they could enjoy a night out for Ann Dee's birthday. Kari (one of my adult nieces), Van, and Asher and I drove all over Provo while Asher sang Christmas carols and Van played Angry Birds on my ipad. It was a blessed FHE.

December 27th (today) - I forgot to take a picture but I had dinner and FHE with the Gardners. It was a blast. The lesson was team taught by all four boys about Daniel and the lion's den and how we should have faith in  God. I was in charge of the opening and closing songs. I chose "Once there was a snowman" (opening) and "Follow the Prophet "(closing). It was a bit awkward cause I didn't really know the verses to "Follow the Prophet," just the chorus but luckily Jackson knew the words to the verse about Daniel and the lions den so it worked out OK.

Other things ...

Basketball is in full swing. I had a fun trip to Grand Junction, CO for a tournament with these girls.

My annual holiday puzzle ... finished before Christmas eve. Next year I won't open the puzzle until Christmas eve.

This was Tommy's attempt at winning over every little kid in the family. Buddy the elf was much more of a hit than Santa would have been.

Would this picture be the same without the laptop showing some movie about racecars?

New Year's Resolution post coming soon. Check back if you give a flying rip about my goals in 2011.  2010 was a crazy year with a lot of good and hard times. I'm grateful for both.

I also have about 5 Cooking For One episodes I need to edit and post.

FHE @ Lisa & Sam's House

This last Monday night was FHE at the Baxter's house. We read from 3 Nephi 1 and Luke 2 and the kids got to put together all of Lisa's nativities (she collects them). Then we had Moravian sugar cookies (that I brought from North Carolina) and cinnamon egg nog. It was a very pleasant evening and I love Lisa's collection ... check out a few of them in the pics below.

BTGE - NCWH

Best ThanksGiving Ever - North Carolina With the Hendersons

Tuesday morning ... visit to Lewisville Elementary so Jane could give her classmates homemade pumpkin cookies.

Tuesday evening ... trip to Old Salem where I learned about Moravian star and cemeteries.

Wednesday morning ... weather was so beautiful that I wore shorts. We went on a nice long walk along Muddy Creek.

Wednesday afternoon/evening... we hiked around Pilot Mountain (see pics).  In the evening we sat around the fire in the pit that Duane built in the backyard and enjoyed great conversation. It was so nice and relaxing.

Thursday ... Thanksgiving dinner. Spent most of the day cooking with Kim and Duane. Then I got to hang out with some of their friends for dessert.

And then it was over. I came home Friday and put up my Christmas tree.

FHE @ Amy and Todd's House

Tonight was FHE at Amy & Todd's house ... you know, Amy & Todd who were "going together" since 9th grade. Amy and Todd who were married in the Manti temple and I was so sick after the sealing that I slept in the back seat of Amy and Aaron's car during the luncheon.

Here is how FHE went down:
Dinner ... navajo tacos
Todd conducted
Maryn led the song ... I'm trying to be like Jesus
Loryn gave the prayer
Nick gave the scripture: Mosiah 2:17
Kayla gave the lesson (with Maryn's help)
Todd did the game ... some Wii dancing game ... don't tell Todd that I posted this.
Amy had the treat
I just sat back and enjoyed.

The lesson was on service and everyone was challenged to give service this week to someone on the service wheel (we rolled to see who). So I am supposed to serve a friend every day this week and I would like to report back that I did it. Anyone have any ideas of what I could do for a friend this week? You need some service?

FHE @ Carrie & Cory & Mary's House

Monday night I attended Family Home Evening at Carrie & Cory's house. Cory gave the lesson about baby blessings and the priesthood. Mary's little brother Hank was blessed the day before.

Mary listened, answered questions, and asked good questions herself, like "why don't girls have the priesthood." It was great.

After the lesson we chatted and watched Monday night football. I loved just hanging out with my good friend Carrie. I'm so glad they are back in UT. This FHE thing has been so great because I get to spend time with my friends and their families where I probably otherwise wouldn't. I also get to see them teach the gospel to their kids. It is awesome.

Thanks for your support ... but I still need your help.

In high school I got in trouble for hanging a poster advertising the girls basketball game because it said, "Women need athletic supporters too."  Aw, come on ... chillax. Well back in high school I was known as a big supporter of all things Provo High. Well I'm still a big supporter of my family, friends and various causes I believe in.

Anyway, as you may have noticed, I've asked a lot of you (via the web) to give money to Drew, read my sister's book, or to vote for this cause). I know this campaigning stuff can be annoying but I really do want to help people and if spreading the word is how I can help, then that is what I'll do as best I can.

I've been feeling so grateful for all of the support I've been given over the last few years as I've promoted these things:
  • laptop for Drew

  • Ann Dee's books (see sidebar)
  • charity golf tournament for Matthew Cooper

  • APX facebook competition for Now I Can (for both Luke Jackson and Matthew Cooper)
  • sponsoring me to do a triathlon to raise money for Drew

  • Buddy Walk for Lacy

And now there are two more things to support and they don't require any money, just votes via the web:
    • Angela Ahn (one of my BFFs) to become Sunglass Hut's fashion blogger ... just one vote per email address and you have to confirm the vote once they email you a confirmation. Go HERE to vote.  Thanks.
      • Pepsi's competition for Tipping Bucket (this is such a great cause because it would mean support for many other great causes) ... go HERE to read about it. You can vote three times a day (once on pepsi's website, once through Facebook, and once by texting 104182 to 73774) during the month of November. I just go to Tippingbucket.org every morning and use the links on their page to vote ... way easy.
        • you can also watch this 30 second video to get the jist of what Tipping Bucket does:

      FHE @ Amber's House

Monday night was FHE at Amber's house. Rich was out of town with their oldest son, Jaxon. Which meant Amber had only 6 kids to feed, teach a family home evening lesson to, and put to bed.

      Molly & Mason (twins)

Anne (could be Sage), Seth, Sage (could be Anne)
      (triplets)

I didn't get a picture of Caleb that night.

I had so much fun. There was not one dull moment. We played games, sang a song, and learned about being thankful. Caleb (age 7) told his younger brothers and sisters about the 10 lepers. He was asked on the spot without warning to recap the story and did it better than I would have. Then each told their brothers and sisters why they were thankful for them. It was great. Amber is amazing and is my hero.

      Karma - Thanks CJane

Monday night I had FHE with Ann Dee's family and Kathy and River at the Bean Museum.

Afterwords I talked them into getting ice cream at the Cougareat rather than the Creamery on 9th ... so much less busy on a Monday night. So there I was at the ice cream counter looking like this:

and the girl in front of me was about to write a check for $1.25. I stepped in and paid for her purchase. I wasn't being nice, I just didn't want to wait for her to write the check cause I really wanted my ice cream. I put it on my signature card which comes out of my paycheck so it was like free money anyway, right?

Well ... a couple of days later, I ran into my good friend Courtney (CJANE) at Days Market and we walked around the store together chatting. I needed to buy a cake for a birthday party I was hosting that night and Courtney insisted on buying the cake for me, which by the way, cost more than $1.25. KARMA. What goes around comes around, so they say. Well I agree.

THIS CAKE IS SPONSORED BY CJANE

It was so nice and I told her in return for her kindness, I'd blog about the experience and let all my readers know that this cake was donated by cjanerun.com ... cause you know, I have lots of readers and she needs help in that department. ;)

In other news, tonight I went on a walk with Jewel. As I was helping her zip up her coat I said, "just be patient, I'll get the "bugger." She laughed and then said "well, if you're going to use that language, you might as well go all the way." So then I said, "ok, I'll get the s**&^#$d." We both laughed hysterically. It was a beautiful night for a walk.

Cooking For One with Katy - Episode 22

Meet guest cook, Hui from China. This Green Thai Curry dish is as good as any curry dish I've had at a restaurant and it was surprisingly easy to make. Enjoy!

      FHE @ Holly's house

Last night was FHE @ Holly & Cliff's house. It was great fun but I'm losing my touch with the toddlers. Asher doesn't like me but I thought that was an anomaly. Well little Jane was starting to warm up to me when I did the "pop my thumb off" trick. It freaked her out to say the least and I'll have to work hard to get her back.

The lesson was on the Holy Ghost and there was also much talk about silly bandz and webkinz. So much I don't know.

Here is everyone enjoying caramel apples for dessert.

My two loves ... Eric Stoltz and Michael J. Fox

This is just another Eric Stoltz post ...

      Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly

Cameron sent me this link the other day. I love both Eric and Michael and have since I was little. I had no idea that Eric was cast in Back to the Future. Remember when I met Eric?

On another note, I stopped by Provo High ...

and got to see this nephew right before his first swim meet. I just got to see him during the warm-up part but he sure did look Michael Phelpsish.
