Katy and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Yesterday was that day.

Here is what went wrong (I'm into lists lately, give me a break):

I got up at 3:30 AM to finish my readings for school and revise my paper (due that night by midnight).

I only got 1/2 way through my revisions when I had to quit to get ready for work.

I spilled my 32 oz. Dr. Pepper all over my car and didn't have time to clean it so I just left it.

I got yelled at by a co-worker and I didn't deserve it and I hate confrontation.

The magnetic things in the elevators in my building weren't working so I had to take the stairs and by the time I got up to the sixth floor I realized that the doors were locked to get out of the stairwell and that magnetic thing wasn't working to unlock the doors either.

My personal trainer decided that today was the day he was going to add 5 reps to each set - WHAT?

I had to go to a baby shower (no offense to the mom, after all I did go - that is saying something)

I had to pass the gifts around and I refused to pretend that I thought every onesie and baby blanket was cute or darling or whatever.

I felt like a selfish brat for not thinking that every onesie and baby blanket was cute or darling or whatever.

I finally started to finish my revisions at 10:30 PM (remember they had to be posted at midnight) and realized I had lost the copy of my paper that I had revised that morning.

I wanted to break down and cry but I only had an hour and a half to finish my paper so I couldn't spend the energy or the time for a breakdown.

I felt a lot like Larry David. He always has crappy days. He's looking at the glass and trying to decide if it is half full or half empty. You just got my half empty version of my day. Now for my half full version.

Here is what went ok:

I was able to get up at 3:30 and work coherently and effectively for 3 hours.

I learned some cool things about elearning with family history in my graduate seminar.

I bought some cool pens at the BYU bookstore.

I got a lot done at work - productivity is nice.

My mom and dad were also stuck with the same elevator dilemma - misery loves company (2 Nephi 2:27).

My brother Sam wrote a nice blog post about our cousin, Coleen, who recently died of cancer.

I got to spend some time with some high school friends that I don't see that often.

My car smells like Dr. Pepper - NICE.

I was able to control my emotions enough to not break down.

I posted by paper on blackboard at 11:58 PM.

JoDee just e-mailed us about Coleen. It's been harder for me than I would have thought. I'd love to read what Sam wrote. When you have a sec, can you e-mail me the link?

Sorry you had a tough day. Great job to still find the positive. Are you working on your phd again? I completely related to what you said about the baby shower. To this day, my policy of attending only the showers of close friends remains in effect. I just send a gift for the random people in the ward showers,

Oh I go to showers, but I don't care for passing the presents.

I heart Larry David.

"It's okay, some days are just like that." :) I'm a big fan of all the Alexander books. I must say that I'm very impressed you looked at the glass half full too. I usually just stick with the empty side, it's a lot easier to be grumpy sometimes, especially when you had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

There's nothing worse than being in a bad mood and then having to go somewhere (such as a baby shower) where it is not allowed. I'm most devastated about you having to re-do your paper!! That allows for some complaining. Maybe we should go for some intuitively chosen desserts this weekend. :)

oh man, that's a crappy day! But I'm glad you found some cool pens, that's always happy. And I'm also glad you got your paper posted before midnight, nice work!

I had a tough day just from reading all that...lol. Sorry you had to go through all that, but you're right, the scent of Dr. Pepper is definately a positive! You will have to tell your sister that I read her book and loved it! Whenever I get back to Utah I will have to take you up on that game of raquetball. I love how you challenge me while I am on the other side of the world. :) Take care and good to hear from you!

Worse than having to pass the gifts around and make the appropriate "coo" is having to pass the the diaper and guess at its contents. Actually, shower games as a general rule are lame.

But big caffeinated beverages...Mmmm.

Don't you just love KTB! I know I do!

ya, it's so annoying that everything at a baby shower is cute and deserves an, "ah". Why not say, "oh, another onsie." Bring on the gift card...then again I gave a gift card to one of my friends and she was visibly annoyed. What's up with that? I am going to a shower and I am supposed to bring a gift card for the gift card tree. Finally, someone who gets it.

I am proud of you for finding the positive. Days like that make good days a lot better. I am not into showers, either so don't feel guilty. Are you wearing the onesies? Didn't think so. Natural reaction.

KT,

I think you're cooler than PB & J. Sorry about the rough day!

But of course I don't want you to think that I am teasing you. But, I guess I am.

I hope your next paper will be written with more ease and less obstacles.
