A New year, new goals, new hope

Goals for 2011 - Simple and Consecrated Life

My goal for 2011 is to live a simple and consecrated life (as described by Elder Uchtdorf and Elder Christofferson)

To do that I will work on the following, more specific goals:

  • Attend an endownment session in every temple in Utah (pictures and posts to come)
  • Try not to swear so much (especially in my car when I'm by myself)
  •  Repent
  •  Read the Book of Mormon
  • Stay focused in all three meetings at church (no sleeping or day dreaming)
  • dissertation prospectus passed (winter semester)
  • 10 new ipads purchased for dissertation (end of summer)
  • data collected for dissertation(fall)
  • Live within monthly budget and maybe even save some ...
  • Read 3 non-scripture church/historical books (David O. McKay, Monson biography, Joseph Smith Rolling Stone)
  • Read at least five other books (non-fiction or fiction)
  • Focus on nutrition in addition to exercise (last year I completely neglected nutrition)
  • Complete 1 sprint triathlon without walking the 5K (Ice Breaker in March)
  • Complete 1 olympic triathlon without walking the 10K (Green River in August)
  • Continue to attend FHE's of family and friends
  • Organize the rest of my parent's house (pantry, closet, laundry room)
  • Help Larry keep it organized and clean (check in on them at least 3X/week)
  • Digitize Jewel's recipes (organize this family project, enter at least 10/week)
  • Get to work on time more consistently
  • Blog at least once a week
  • Go on at least on legitimate date/month (planned, paid for, and paired off)
    • Need help here ... can you set me up?
  • Post at least 12 new episodes of Cooking for One
  • BDAA (western US, save up vacation days)
  • Be kinder and nicer to people

Awesome goals. Make sure you get to the Ogden temple before April, it's closing for 2 1/2 years for renovations on 4/1/11.

Katy B. Knight, my beloved high school student body president, and fellow (former?) Oak Hills-ian. This is Chris(tine) Spencer from the first ward (we live here now/again). I would email you, but I don't know how else to reach you, so here goes a long comment that I hope finds your inbox soon. I've popped in on your blog from time to time over the past couple of years and several months ago was inspired by this post about your 2011 goal to live a simple and consecrated life, based on two awesome Conference talks by two amazing Apostles. Cutting to the chase (deep breath): I told my RS peeps about your post and got them kind of excited (okay, really excited) about the potential of having you come and speak in our ward, specifically at our February Relief Society dinner (no pressure, except, actually, that's a lot of pressure.) Would you be up to it? (Speaking to the theme of living a simple and consecrated life, grounded in the key parts of those Conference talks that motivated you the most, and sharing the experiences, challenges, growth, joy, frustrations, sacrifices, rewards, etc. of your 2011 adventure in striving to accomplish this and what it has meant to you.) Random request. Short notice. But awesome person worth taking this chance asking. (Our current bishop, Jim Blair, OK'd it in a second, telling our RS pres he knows and loves you and going on about how down to earth you are and how excellent it would be to have you come.) Except, except...it's possible you have a basketball game that night. I didn't think about that! (And, of course, it's possible that you might absolutely reject the entire notion.) It'd be the second Tuesday in February...the 14th. Wait, wait, that's Valentine's Day. This is getting complicated. Could you, would you on Valentine's Day? Okay. Well, this is a start. Please send me a line at christine.spencer.evans@gmail.com to keep the pride alive. And we will go from there....Thank you!!
